Serrapeptase or Serratiopeptidase, is an enzyme isolated from a microorganism in silkworm. The silkworm has serrapeptase (AKA Serratio Peptidase or serratiopeptidase). Our serrapeptase supplement product is derived from a fermentation process from the microorganism Serratia E-15 in a laboratory. Our enteric coated serrapeptase product is of the highest quality available.

Serrapeptase side effects
Serrapeptase side effects are not common. A look at serrapeptase enzyme published studies reveals a rare cases of pneumonitis and one case of a dermatitis skin disease reported in 1989. In the past few years of selling serrapeptase products, and after thousands of bottles sold, we have only had 2 individuals report serrapeptase side effects - muscle aches. We are not sure if these were related to serrapeptase or a coincidence. Both individuals were taking more than 40,000 units serrapeptase dosage a day. Limit your serrapeptase dosage to one tablet a day and take 2 days off each week just to be on the safe side and have medical approval before use. Otherwise, we have not had any other reports or found any published research regarding other serrapetpase side effects.

* Serrapeptase enzyme daily value not established.

Serrapeptase is also known as serratio peptidase, serratiopeptidase and sometimes spelled as serratia peptidase. Most studies with serrapeptase have been done in Japan.

Serrapeptase supplement questions
Q. I would like some serrapeptase info. I have been on another brand of serrapeptase. I went to order your brand and the mg are different. I have been taking 2000 mcg tablets twice a day and yours is mesured in mgs. I don't know how to convert it. Isn't there 1000 mcgs in one mg?
   A. Yes, that is right,1000 mcg equals one mg. Our serrapeptase product is made by Marlyn Neutraceuticals in Arizona, one of the few facilities approved by the FDA for making enzymes.

Q. Can I take serrapeptase enzyme and nattokinase enzyme the same day?
   A. We have not seen any studies combining the two enzymes, and to be on the safe side we suggest not taking them together unless your doctor is familiar with both and approves.

Q. My doctor has suggested serrapeptase enzyme for me. One concern I have is  that I have a lap band. I know they are enteric coated because it is  important for the serrapeptase to be intact as it passes through the
stomach to the intestines.
I will be having my lap-band unfilled, which will allow a pill about  the size of a pencil eraser to get through undamaged. Can you tell me
the approximate size and shape of the serrapeptase pill?
   A. This serrapeptase tablet is one centimeter in diameter and 0.4 cm thick at the widest central area. A LAP-BAND System is an adjustable gastric band designed for weight loss.

Q. Can a serrapeptase supplement be taken along with other systemic enzymes such as those found in Wobenzym?
   A. Since human studies are lacking regarding teh combination of serrapeptase in conjucntion with other systemic enzymes, we suggest not using them together until studies are completed.

Q. How long can serrapetase enzyme be safely taken when used daily?
   A. We don't have an answer to this question. Mcuh depends on your medical condition and the reason the serrapeptase is being used. We recommend medical approval regarding the use of serrapeptase, particularly if you plan to take it for many weeks or months.

Q. How is serrapeptase manufactured? Do they kill silkworms to do it? I have several friends who are interested in a serrapeptase product but they are all vegetarians.
   A. Serrapeptase is made by specific bacteria found in the gut of silkworms and these bacteria "digest" their cocoons. That is the extent of our knowledge, the exact steps are not revealed to us by the manufacturer.
